Who and what are we looking for?

The Senior Manager – Nursery Operations & Biofertiliser is working with the Director, Nursery and Reforestation and will support the development of a large-scale reforestation project in Meghalaya, India. Your will setting nursery and biofertiliser operations and working closely with nurseries to supervise them and select the best sapling growers with the required skills to deliver millions of high quality saplings each year. One position is for Central Nursery to be established in West Khasi Hill district and the other one is for Central Nursery to be established in West Jaintia Hill district.

Main tasks & responsibilities:

  • Prepare the Detail Project Report (DPR) for the establishment of Central Nursery and erection of infrastructure, procurement of inputs for the nursery including garden soil, manures, bio-fertilizers, containers.
  • Lead and implement the tree cuttings of all required species across multiple sites in Meghalaya.
  • Lead and implement nursery and biofertiliser operations.
  • Work closely with nurseries to supervise them and select the best sapling growers with the required skills to deliver millions of high quality saplings each year.
  • Prepare contract agreement with input suppliers for supplying nursery inputs, repair and maintenance of machineries on the nursery operations.
  • Participation in planning meetings, keeping records and reports.
  • Manage and oversee activities, ensuring that they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Provide timely and accurate reports to the Director, Nursery and Reforestation and stakeholders.
  • Monitor progress and identify areas for improvement, making recommendations for adjustments as needed.
  • Onboard yourself into Earthtree Workplace, JIRA, Confluence and Earthbanc MRV App – and check the posts each day and reply conscientiously with Earthtree colleagues to ensure you keep moving priorities and project deliverables forward.

Requirements:

  • M.Sc. Horticulture or M.Sc. Forestry.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Nursery Management in Agro-forestry and or Horticulture plantation in North East India.
  • A valid driver’s licence as well as an acceptable driving record.
  • Working knowledge of QGIS or ArcGIS with some prior work experience in forestry and related data management will be advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently, with experience in nurseries and/or forest planting in tropical and mountainous regions and regions of high precipitation.
  • Speaks fluent English. 
  • Tech savvy, proficient in MS Office.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Desirable:

  • Project and time management skills that utilise digital management tools.
  • 10 years experience in nursery management, and 5 years of reforestation or agroforestry experience.
  • Knowledge of the local language Khasi. 
  • Experience building a new nursery from scratch. 
  • Strong prioritisation, staging, and sequencing skills.
